The Four Ball Test

The Automatic Four-Ball Test is a universally accepted method, to evaluate the performance and wear characteristics of lubricating oils and greases, under extreme pressure. This test involves using three fixed balls and one rotating ball, applying load to the rotating ball to measure friction and wear.

To demonstrate the superiority of the F-Zero lubricants and the ways they benefit the ball bearings of your reels, ZPI compared five types, of commercially available high-performance lubricants, marketed for their low viscosity and low friction. The test was conducted at:

• 750 Rounds per Minute (RPM)
• With a vertical load of 250 Newtons (N) the force required to lift up a load of 25 kg
• Applied for a duration of 6 minutes

The following two comparative photos, show enlarged images of wear marks on the surfaces, after the test. In the Top image, severe wear marks are visible. The Bottom image shows a protective film, formed by Nano Diamond Clusters, which prevents visible wear marks.

ZPI company has run comparative tests, with competitive lubricants. Other brands preserve their lowest friction values at the beginning of the tests, then their performance deteriorates over time.
