Stripping down a rod to its basic values, is a process that should address key issues. Yamaga rod designers asked the following question, before starting working on the Early for Rock rod series: What exactly is Rock fishing?”.
Blanks must not only have strength and low weight, but also the ability to quickly return to their original state (action). In other words, any rod should possess the capacity to instantly return to its natural state and have the power to “detach” fighting fish from the bottom of the sea. Rigid, but highly sensitive tips, despite any unforeseen changes in weather and sea conditions, remain versatile and allow the angler to use the rod in a variety of fishing techniques, with different baits and rigs. Fishing when targeting the species that are active in the lower part of the water column, near the difficult terrain of the rocky bottom has special and usually difficult requirements. We should not just wait for the prey that is active near the rocky bottom to strike. The main goal is to reel it into the shore.
There is a wide variety of distinctive types of rigs and approaches to these catches, that fishermen around the world adopt for these difficult species. Probably the difficulty of catching one is why some people are so fascinated by these species. In March 2021, Japanese company Yamaga presented the Early for Rock rod series, with an excellent ability to cast and manage artificial baits and the necessary strength for the fishes we aim at rocky bottoms.
The Early 104H for Rock has been designed to be a long rod, to enable the angler to cast far and offer the necessary sensitivity. This Yamaga Blanks rod has a doual personality” as when combined with extra thin braids (PE # 1.0) it offers sensitivity and an accurate “reading” of the rocky bottom and it will respond positively when asked for extremely to exert its force reserves in cases where we want to exhaust, or even move away from the rocks, a fighting catch. Those who will use an Early for Rock rod will be able to fish successfully, in places with so difficult seabeds that with other rods it will be just a matter of luck to secure the catch. The Early 104H for Rock can handle a variety of lures and rigs, from Silicone baits with Jig heads, or Texas Rig, Jerk Baits, Minnows, Sinking Pencils, jigs and smaller baits in the area of 14 cm, targeting large prey of the seabed, such as Grouper, Golden Grouper, White Grouper but also combative catches that lurk in the midwater. Such are the Amberjack and its related species such as Blue Fish and Vatigo.
The Early 104H for Rock has a length of 3.16 m and weighs just 205 gr. Keeping in mind it is a long Yamaga Blanks rod. The total length of the Butt reaches 52.5 cm from the starting point of the EVA material and 42 cm to the base of the reel seat (Fuji DPS18), which is a convenient length for handling lures without affecting the ability for long casts. Its Casting Weight is 15 – 60 gr. allowing the handling of a wide range of artificial baits.
The Early for Rok is equipped with Fuji stainless steel SiC K Guides that can handle PE 1.0 – 3.0 braids. Yamaga suggests for this model to be used with PE 2.0 braid with a Daiwa LT 4000 to 6000 reel series, or a Shimano 4000 to 5000, while with PE 3.0 braid it matches better with a Daiwa 3500 to 4000 reel, or a Shimano of the SW 4000 to 6000 series.
The blank of the 86MH for Rock maintains its excellent balance between Casting ability and Handling the catch after the strike, while at the same time is impressively sensitive. The angler will be able to fish with silicone baits, either with jig heads, or with Texas rigs, and will feel with a great degree of accuracy the bottom’s structure (rock, mud, seaweed beds). Its rigid body will instantly transmit the strike and pull the predator towards the surface and away from the bottom’s structure. The blank of the Early 86MH for Rock will respond to harsh weather conditions, targeting Mediterranean Dealfish ans to Jerking with Minnows styles, for the ultimate Seabass.
The YB Early 86M for Rock has 2.59 m of length and 123 gr. of weight. The total legth of the Butt stands at 48 cm. (from the point where the EVA material begins) and at 36.5 cm. up to the reel seat, which is the Fuji VSS16. Its Casting Weight is 7 – 40 gr., which enables any angler to use the vast majority of the most widely used lures in the Mediterranean. Fuji guides with stainless steel frame and SiC rings can easily handle PE braids between #1.0 – #2.0. Yamaga Blanks proposes this rod to be combined with a DaiwaLT 3000 up to 4000 reel, or a Shimano 3000 up to 4000.
