It has been one of the first lures to introduce us into the Rock Fishing technique. The Custom colors of the DUO Tetra Toto 48HS have been developed exclusively for the Mediterranean.
Capitalizing on the expertise of leading manufacturer DUO International, in collboration with internationally aknowledged angler George Tyrikos and Anglermania company – the official DUO Dealer for Greece and Cyprus – we proceeded to produce three exclusive Custom color combinations in the Tetra Works Toto 48HS series.
George Tyrikos, inspired by the color combinations of Mediterranean baitfish, the feeding habits of predators and the endless hours spent in the field observing and studying the behavioral patterns of fish, designed three unique color patterns that are present in the Mediterranean ecosystem. These color combinations have been extensively tested and retested in various fields, for us to be absolutely certain of their effectiveness.
The micro-minnow Tetra Works Toto 48HS, is not simply a scale up from the 42 size model, but a flatter body shape, that has been employed, while maintaining the original outline. It is a sinking minnow, which will be outstanding in fields where the Toto 42 was not enough. This sinking type lure with the long lip design, will enable anglers to maintain their target range easier. Furthermore, it is an ideal entry model for novice anglers with the increased drag against the lip.
With the 48mm length and 4.3 gr weight settings, the casting distance has been drastically improved and easier range control in the deep areas, has been made possible. The lip has helped the lure grip the water more compared to the Yurameki, or Ikkako, preventing the lure to float up to the surface, assisting in controlling the tracing range.
With the focus on the Mebaru (black rockfish) as the main-target, the action has been set for slow retrieval. It is equipped with a natural rolling action when hit with the flow or current. Furthermore, the lure also responds well to rod work, staging a sharp flashing effect with high speed twitching for targeting Trevally’s.
Below you will find the reasoning behind the development of these new colors, which are expected to make an impact in the Mediterranean, especially in the field of Light Rock Fishing.
The lottched Picarel is one of the main species other fish prey upon in the Mediterranean coast. At the same time it is also a predator itself, a usual teaser which, especially during the breeding season of other fish, has been observed to attack offspring, in shallows, flats even in ports in the midwater. White Seabreams make vicious attacks to drive out intruders, such as the Blottched Picarel from their area, while Saddled Seabreams and Seabass are particularly fond of small size baitfish, that are more vulnerable to attacks. Making a realistic representation of a Blottched Picarel and accurately recreating so many natural details on a 48mm lure, is something incredibly hard. DUO, once again, stood up to the challenge and developed an amazing result relying on its expertise. This is one of the best imitations of Mediterranean fish, in an LRF lure, that has ever been released. While in the water, the Toto 48HS Blottched Picarel creates a bigger volume than its real size, but this tones down due to the transparency of the body. Its dark shades are based on pearl, iridescent colors. It has been designed for fishing in overfished places, with weary prey, but will also perform well with larger predators, due to its dark colors.
This is a lure that combines natural, iridescent colors, with reaction colors. The Zebra pattern has for many years been a must for any manufacturer. For the first time in the Toto 48HS, this color pattern has been combined with a multicolored, holographic foil and enhanced with a black back, which is not separated from the rest colors, but progressively blends in, in an overspray effect. This is an overly tested lure against White Seabream, Saddled Seabream and Seabass in any weather condition, or water clarity. The color pattern that has been utilized creates a unique effect when the lure is in motion, along with the glow and iridescent details, while the dark back creates a contrast with the bright colors and reproduces flashes. This lure will not go unnoticed when the water is murky, but its performance will certainly improve in calm and clear waters. The Black Back Zebra is the lure with which you can scan the activity in an area. It is an improved version of a classic color pattern, with a crafty touch.
Little Wrasse have a prominent position in the food chain in the tropics. Despite being a very common baitfish in the Mediterranean, we seldom see manufacturers reproduce its colors in an LRF lure. The Wrasse is characterized by the finely determined color zones on its body. Starting from the back and ending in the belly area one can observe dark pearl green, light green, yellow, iridescent silver. However, the most important modification are the glowing dots scattered on its full body length. Shed some UV light and enjoy the effect. Apparently all the artistic inspiration has worked out, as this lure was texted extensively with amazing results. In the eyes of predators, the Random Glow Wrasse has struck the ideal combination of natural colors, reaction details and works in all light and water clarity conditions. This is a need to have color in your tackle box as it stands somewhere in between the lottched Picarel and Black Back Zebra of the Toto Tetra Works 48HS.
