The Wind style is based on soft lures, rigged with Darting Type jig heads. The main characteristic of the Wind fishing technique is the movement that the silicone lure performs, due to the continuous motion of the rod, but also because of the particular action of the Wind rods. More specifically, the retrieval of the lure should be as following: after casting the lure and as soon as the lure reaches the bottom, we start to “retrieve” the soft bait with continuous vertical jerks, while the silicone will follow a continuous zig-zag movement, due to its darting jig head.
The Wind soft lures do not rely so much on the motion of their body, as they have a short torso and are made of hard material, since they target fish with very sharp teeth (Barracudas). The secret of their movement lays in the jig head. Usually, Wind Soft Bait manufacturers, market them with the corresponding jig heads, in order to achieve the ultimate presentation, making them even more attractive to the eyes of voracious predators. In addition, the Major Craft JP Wind Minnow 84 silicones lures have a tiny hole in their body for the purpose of inserting a chemical light (glowing stick) so they become visible at night.
During the retrieve, Anglers should always allow for a little bit of slack in the line and the gear setting to be slightly more loose than usual. Ideal rods to fish the Wind Minnow 84 are those with Tip Action, Regular Fast, Fast, or Extra Fast (the designated class in relation to the actual behavior of the rod may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer) and a strong blank.
