The core technology used in the Daiwa 2025 Saltiga is the Power Drive Design. It is the design concept of the next generation for large spinning reel, that pursues high reliability, so that you can safely tackle large fish, all over the world. It is a new technology developed to fulfill the mission imposed on Saltiga, or in other words, it is its new identity.
So that you can face the oceans of the world head-on, without fear. So that you can continue to use it forever as your ultimate partner. So that as many people as possible can catch record fish. Transform the passion, smiles and dreams of anglers into the strength of our reels.
How does Daiwa make a highly rigid reel, that will reliably and safely catch unknown targets, when the chance comes. A highly durable reel that will continue to perform at its best for a long time, even in harsh natural environments. The answer Daiwa came to when asking themselves this question, was to tear up all the blueprints they had up until then. It couldn’t be an improvement. Daiwa had to start from scratch.
This Power Drive Design consists of two units: the Body unit (Power Drive Engine) and the Rotor unit (Power Drive Rotor).
The Power Drive Engine is made up of two technologies: the large-diameter, Oversized Power Digigear and the Roller Power Oscillation, that uses a ball bearing system. The Drive Gear has been enlarged, which is possible only with Daiwa’s unique Monocoque body and the Oscillation mechanism has been revamped. These are stored in the “Full Metal Monocoque Body” the strength of which has been increased to the maximum and it exerts a more efficient and powerful winding force. The Saltiga achieves a clearly light and powerful winding from the initial movement.
The highly durable MC Tough Digigear made of G1 Duralumin has been made 10% larger in diameter and 6% thicker, making it the strongest gear ever. Even during long, high-load fights, the gears are designed to maintain a stable meshing, minimizing deflection. By significantly reducing power transmission loss, Daiwa promises smooth winding.
The Oscillation Mechanism has been changed from the conventional pillar type, to a two-ball bearing type oscillator. This has improved the oscillation efficiency by approximately 30%.
The Power Drive Rotor, is the front unit. It has a rational spherical shape that combines high rigidity and low inertia. It is composed of the Power Drive Rotor, which is equipped with two technologies: the Crank Power Beil and the Tough Line Roller System. The unique rotor shape, which looks as if it was cut out of a sphere, is symmetrical and highly balanced around the axis of rotation, and demonstrates high rigidity against sudden external forces.
The Crank Power Bail and Line Roller mounted on this rotor, have also been redesigned, allowing for accurate line release and a smooth transition to winding operation. In big game fishing, the most important thing is to instantly reel in the line. The Bail shape, with an optimally inclined crank and the strengthened spring mechanism, ensure that the tensioned line is guided to the Line Roller and prevent unexpected opening and closing. In addition, the hollow tube structure with a thick shaft ensures high rigidity.
In order to withstand repeated high loads, the Line Roller Shaft is designed with a larger support surface and is integrated with the Bail Arm, eliminating the rattling that previously occurred at the joint and significantly improving durability. In addition, the newly designed PE-only line roller, reduces friction with the line, achieving lighter winding.
In the Saltiga 25 the drag mechanism was also redesigned. Up to the 14000 model, the ATD Tough, which is made up of a total of 14 carbon and metallic washers, was used, while the 18000 model and above are equipped with a new drag mechanism called “DRD”. This is a completely new mechanism, with eight metal rollers are installed on one metal plate, which suppress the decrease in drag force due to frictional heat. It is actually more than five times more durable than a carbon washer. Even in big games that force you to fight for a long time, it maintains a smooth start.
The long-distance casting performance has also been improved. Even under bad weather conditions, you want to deliver the lure as far as possible. To accomplish that, the conventional LC-ABS system was redesigned into the LC-ABS SW. While the LC-ABS optimizes the spool ring shape, to achieve smooth line release, the LC-ABS SW uses a two-stage taper shape toward the spool ring, on the upper surface of the winding section. This reduces friction with the line released from the deep diameter, achieving a smooth casting feel and further improving the release performance in the latter half of the cast. In particular, when using thick lines, it contributes to an increase in casting distance of approximately 2%.
In the field of big games, there is an extremely high risk of salty water entering due to wave overflow and sea breezes. For this reason, Magseal is applied in three rotating parts: the Line Roller, Pinion and Handle Shaft. It is the only large spinning reel that is completely waterproof.
