The Ika Metal fishing style, is a widespread boat technique in Japan, which targets all kinds of Cephalopods (Squids, Cuttle fish and Broad Tail Squids). Although it is a new technique in the Mediterranean, squid fishing enthusiasts have embraced this technical, but at the same time efficient way of fishing their favorite catch.

The Ika Metal is a fishing style in which the fisherman must give life to his Ika jig, with Long Fall and Slow Pitch moves, just as he would when fishing Slow Jigging. Major Craft has developed the Crostage rod series, made exclusively for the Ika Metal technique.

In the making of the Crostage Ika Metal rods, in addition to the high quality materials used, Major Craft focused on the functionality element, which is demonstrated by the length of 7 feet, a length that will facilitates the angler into performing Slow Pitch and Long Fall moves. In the Crostage Ika Metal series, high and medium density Carbon material has been used to make the blank, Fuji K Frame guides with Alconite ceramic material, Fuji VSS reel seat and low weight EVA material. The Crostage Ika Metal range includes models intended for use with Spinning and Baitcasting reels.

The CRXJ-S702H / OMORIG rod has been developed to work with Omorig rigs, with artificial Ika up to 120 g (30). The Omorig rigs consist of an Egi squid (# 2.5 – # 3.0) and an Ika Metal, or a fluorescent sinker. Its design will enable the angler to feel even the slightest touch on the Ika, by small or inactive cephalopods. The rod remains true to its characteristic length (7 feet) to easily perform Slow Pitch and Long Fall jerks, with Regular action. The CRXJ-702H / OMORIG will work perfectly with heavy squids (TR Egi type) when the cephalopods are active in the shallow sections of the water column, where the need for a different presentation is imperative. It can be rigged with a Spinning reel.

The CRXJ-S702M / NS model is the lightest version of the series. It is a rod that will be used in conditions where the currents are not strong and the depths are not too great. It can handle Ika between 20 and 60 g (8 to15). It is a pleasant and relaxing rod to use due to its light weight, but also due to its sensitivity that allows us to fish cephalopods while the jig is sinking. It is compatible with Spinning reels.

The CRXJ-S762H / NS was developed as a standard model, aiming to battle the big cephalopods. It is a tailor made rod for Ika Metal. Despite its strong blank, it does not lose its sensitivity and will be able to convey information even from slight bites. This rod has been designed to be rigged with Spinning reels.

The CRXJ-B702H / NS model has been built to deliver maximum power, when we need to rig large Ikas. It will perform at its best with sizes of about 60 g (15 and up), in deeper than 50 m where the currents are strong and a heavier Ika is necessary. Having Extra Fast action, it will be able handle cephalopods without tearing their sensitive tentacles. If you fish with the Ika metal style in deep waters with strong currents, there is no doubt that the CRXJ-B702H / NS was made for this. It is combined with Baitcasting reels, with guides mounted in a spiral arrangement, to avoid tangles.
