The Vertrex Vibe system is the hottest new technique for fishing Snapper, Grouper, Yellowtail, Stripers and any species you’d normally target on a jig in the deep end of the water column. Anglers might love the classic jigs used in the Mediterranean, but some days a Vibe just gets more bites than a jig, and vibing has become a super important technique for any offshore jigging angler to have in their tackle box. They are perfectly matched to Slow Pitch Jigging rods and can be easily fished.
So how did Vibing fishing started? Vibing is a new technique and fishing system, that revolves around the Nomad Vertrex Soft Vibe lure series. It works from 1 m to 150 m of water on a huge range of species, but it is not new as we might think. It’s been a go to fishing technique in Australia for over 15 years and it’s one of the most widely used and effective techniques on many Australian species. It simply catches fish, and it doesn’t matter if it’s a lake in Florida, or the Mediterranean sea, fish eat vibes.
The Vertrex is a deceptively simple and plain looking lure. It looks like a freshwater lipless crankbait. However, while it looks like a lipless crank and can even be used as such, that is only scratching the surface of what it is and what it can do. It is made with super tough & strong TPE Soft Plastic, encouraging fish to hang on and giving you a totally silent presentation. Next the guts, what is inside. Ingenious internal weighting system painstakingly designed and tested on the worlds biggest gamefish is what allows this lure to move and hunt like no lipless can do. Finally, a proper Vibe is completely through-wired, meaning the entire lure is connected by thick gauge wire from the line tie to the rear hook hanger. This stops toothy, or strong jawed predators like Redfish from ripping a Vertrex Vibe apart, or pulling hooks out of lures. Oh, and we should mention the amazing color selection.
Maximum vibration and maximum depth is what the Nomad Design Vertrex Max is all about. The way these lures work, with the vibration they send through the water, is to work them off the bottom and as they glide towards the bottom you can feel the vibration produced, especially if you are working it with a sensitive rod. A unique design from Nomad Design lure designer Damon Olsen, the deep body profile combined with finely tuned internal weights, delivers a soft vibration bait, that sinks level without spinning on the drop. This allows you to get down to the fish faster.
The deeper body design combined with the body shape, creates huge vibration on the lift at fast and slow speeds. The amount of vibration you can achieve at slow speeds just gently hopping this lure on, or near the bottom is what sets theVertrex Maxapart from all other soft vibration baits.
Vibes come in two styles. The Max, which is thumps hard and sinks fast and a Swim, which is provides a swimming action and a finesse presentation. You can see the difference in the internal weighting systems in the picture below that allow these attributes.
Available in Greece, in 130 and 150 millimeters the Vertrex Maxs internal weight is shaped with a hump that makes it dive down, sinking quickly and linearly. The Max is intended to fish deeper water, including offshore, or faster moving water like inlets, jetties, bridges, pilings and docks on moving water. The Max can be ripped like a lipless crankbait, but it is more effective being Vibed up and quickly dropped back into the strike zone.
The difference between the Vertrex Swim, compared to the Max, is that the Swim is more versatile and able to be used over a larger portion of the season. It is intended for shallower, slower waters. The Swim is a slimer lure with a different shape weight, to change the action on the fall compared to the Max, the Swim actually swims slowly down on the drop. Using the same technique as one would with the Max, yet with a longer and more considered pause on the fall can draw savage strikes.
Lets find out efficient ways to start with the Max Vibe presentation. The Nomad Design Vertrex Max fall fast and straight down. And you can pull up very hard on the Vibe before you let it fall. No finesse needed. Proper vibing technique with Max is very simple. Once you identify your target, you cast the Vibe (it flies like a rocket) and as it hits the water hold your fishing pole at a 45-degree angle and dont move it. Just hold that rod perfectly still. As the Max hits the bottom, using only your reel, not the rod, reel very fast three to four hard cranks. You will feel the Vibe thumping – so will nearby Predators – as it rockets off the bottom. Still holding rod very still, allow the Vertrex Max to quickly sink to the bottom. Its very important to keep contact with the lure and not to allow excessive slack. Most of your hits will come on the fall, so be ready. Let it fall, keep in contact and when it hits, or nears bottom, vibe it up fast and hard with the reel again. Repeat all the way back to boat. This sounds easy, but it takes discipline to keep your rod still and maintain contact with the Vibe.
Important Notice: The Vertrex Max Offshore are made from TPE Ultra-Tough Material. Like most other plastics on the market, its important not to store two different types of plastics together, as they can cause a chemical reaction, which can deform the plastics.
