Japanese company Palms has designed one of the most comprehensive rod series for Light Rock Fishing in the world. They have incorporated those design characteristics and reached a level of specialization, that can cover every need and every fishing field for this popular technique. The firm, driven from its corporate culture to provide top quality rods, at affordable prices, has achieved exactly that. The name of this LRF rod series is Pinwheel and carries the personal signature of the legendary Japanese Designer and angler Numata Junichi, but also that of the Production Manager Hitoshi Yomoda.

The Pinwheel rods range that our shop carries, has been field tested from local, experienced anglers, not so much against the global quality standards of Palms, but on their individual features that make them relevant to the Mediterranean and in particular, Greek waters and respective prey.

Specialization

The specialization of the Pinwheel rods does not derive from the target fish alone, but on the lure and on the fishing technique we want to use. Even the fact that every rod model can adjust to plenty of lures and fishing techniques, each one excels in a particular field, which allows us to practice a targeted and enjoyable fishing session. The setting of every rod is different, according to the lures that we should use and based on the technique it is made for. Their blank in particular has been manufactured with the X-Carbon Technology that offers many benefits, amongst which is the necessary progressiveness response in order to handle the jigs and to easily tackle fighting prey. The X-Carbon Technology is an effective reinforcement system, that helps the rod improve its performance, by cross blending carbon fibers, in an X shape. Along with weight reduction, the rigidity of the blank, and its twisting power towards any direction has been increased. At the same time they have the ability to place solid hooks and have such strength in their blank capable to bring ashore the strongest fish. The rod blanks, made of this technology, are simply flawless, sturdy and resilient. angle Free Fuji K-Guides

When it comes to managing thin braids, the angle Free Fuji K-Guides – against wind knots – with which the Pinwheel rods are set, are one of the best options currently in the market. Their design ensures the right management of the braid during casting in order to avoid wind knots, long casts and they also facilitate the whole fishing process, by raising the sensitivity in managing the lures and transmitting our commands and signals to the rod and backwards with great accuracy, to the point of letting us know, at any time, what is happening in the other side of our rig. The rings are Fuji Sic Guide, with great resistance against saltwater corrosion.

Reel Seat

The ergonomic design of the reel seat by Palms, aims to the reduction of the overall weight and the maximization of sensitivity. At the same time, the way that the angler can hold the Pinwheel rods, means comfort during long sessions and the whole design process had as an end result, the achievement of total control of our lure. The Palms Pinwheel rods have specially designed butts for every model, in order to achieve the best possible balance. Palms managed to avoid the addition of unnecessary material, that could add unnecessary weight to our rod and reduce its sensitivity and handling.

• PFGS-56UL (Extra Fast):If this model can be described in a few words, these would be Incomparable Sensitivity. It is the shortest of the Pinwheel range, but by far the rod with the greatest sensitivity. Its Tubular tip ensures flawless handling of small jigs and small jig heads. At the same time, it enables us to feel in great detail what is happening in the other side of our rig, even when a fish is about to attack, or simply flirts with our lure. An experienced angler can handle this rod literally with his fingertips. It addresses a very technical game, where the main objective is the accuracy of the casts and not the long distance. The Pinwheel 56UL rod is not afraid of the bottom fishing game and even if it looks slim and delicate, it totally surprised us with its strength, when it had to handle bottom fish, White Seabreams and Gilthead Seabreams. It is a rod for all the Finesse anglers, who want absolute accuracy in their strategy with small jigs and jig heads with soft lures, or biodegradables. It is ideal for rocky coastlines where the accuracy of the cast is absolutely imperative.
• PFGS-63UL (Extra Fast): This Pinwheel rod has similar characteristics with the PFGS-56UL model, except that on this one, the length and the setting of the rod guides, gives us much longer casting distance and flexibility, in a variety of fishing fields such as beaches, flats, rocky places and estuaries. It has tremendous sensitivity and emphasizes more at hard lures, such as jigs and micro-minnows. The combination of its sensitivity in very small lures, with its nervous character makes it the ideal rod for fish that lurk in the surface like Saddled Seabreams, False Scad and Garpikes when they are away from the shore, or when we need to use small lures, in every level of the water column.
• PFGS-75L+ (Bottom Control): In bottom fishing, either with Pencils, or with Soft lures and Biodegradables, an angler has to face difficult fields with rocks, on top of clever and weary fish. The big White Seabream, the Gilthead Seabream, but also the strong bottom-feeding species, even fish more rare like Pandoras and Dentex tend to feed at the bottom. To reel them in, when we fish with finesse techniques is a difficult matter. As a result, Palms expanded the Casting Weight range of this rod, to enable us to present closer to the bottom, a bigger lure, away from the coastline and also reinforced the strength of the blank, in order to fully control fighting prey during the battle. This Heavy Rock Fishing Pinwheel rod will give you solutions and it is suitable for those anglers who want to be aggressive with small lures, in coastlines for big White Seabreams and Seabasses. It is a rod that will give us the pleasure to fish with delicate tools, as it gives us power and control on the big strong fish.
• PFGS-86UL+ (Super Flex): If there is a rod we can call All Rounder in Light Rock Fishing, then this is it. It is the most flexible model of the series, addressing those who dont want to specialize in certain fields, but want to experiment with strategic fishing, with a variety of lures and techniques. It is a rod for long casts, which has been designed both for jigs and small minnows, but also for fishing techniques such as Caro, Light Texas / Carolina rig. In order to design a best seller model, Palms made an unusual combination in the 86UL rod. It combines this extensive Casting Weight rod, with a Solid tip and a very strong blank, ensuring a totally instant hook, when at the same time there is no compromise to sensitivity. We could say that this model is the basic model of this series.
• PFSS-59UL (Solid Fast): This rod has been designed for technical fishing with Jig Heads, Soft lures and Biodegradables. The casts it can achieve, even with such small Casting Weight is really impressive. It can literally solve the riddle whether, or not a rod can throw small Jigheads at long distances. Its solid tip combined with the strength of its blank, make a tremendously sensitive rod, with which you will be able to feel everything even the smallest current, the smallest contact in the water, or the smallest touch from a fish. The motion we transmit to our lure is instant and accurate, with minimal effort. The 59UL is amazing for the On the Drop techniques, it is very light and one of the best rods for fishing with jig heads and soft baits.
• PFSS-76UL (Solid Flex):Solid Tip, Overwhelming Tone. The 76UL is the second Pinwheel solid model, which yet specializes in the steady retrieves strategy. It is one of the few that has reached such a level of specialization. This rod presents our lures (Minnows, or Soft lures) in such way that even the most suspicious fish cannot suspect them. Its aim is to make each lure release 100% of its swimming action without making the fish suspicious. Its solid tip gives a natural, harmonious movement to our lure and the strength of the blank takes over a strong hook up. It is ideal for fishing Basses with finesse lures and also for presentation in places like ports, estuaries, beaches etc.
• PFSS-77L (Butt UP Tuned): In Shore anglers who take the Light Rock Fishing style to extremes, by targeting big and strong fish, with finesse LRF tools, have this Pinwheel rod at their disposal. We all know that fish like Basses will attack easily and under certain circumstances, small lures, if these are properly presented. The challenge starts right after the strike. This Pinwheel rod is able to present lures up to 10 grams and has enormous strength in order to handle really big preys, tire them with its bending curve and eventually exhaust them. It is best matched with braid on no more than PE 0.8. This Palms rod is the perfect companion for wadding in estuaries, rocky places and performs at its best with hard lures and jig heads up to 10 grams because of its solid tip. It is a sensitive monster in other words, for the difficult to handle fish including Basses, Dentex, Bluefish and Seabream.
• PFGS-69UL+ (Finesse witching): The Micro Minnows enthusiasts who fish very aggressively and technically with continuous Twitches, have finally found the most specialized rod in the market. Anglers who seek big White Seabreams and Saddled Seabreams in the Mediterranean know well, that these fishes react in a more intense and greedy manner near a small minnow with continuous, fast and sharp twitching in combination with fast cranking. This Palms model has been developed especially for twitching after long casts and its Casting Weight is ideal to handle all the small floating, or sinking Minnows, between 4.8 and 5 cm in length and 3 – 4 gr of weight. In order to achieve this result the PFGS-69UL+ rod has an extra carbon layer. Its action and strength is being applied in a very progressive pattern, a beautiful bending curve has been achieved, for such a finesse fishing style, yet the same attention has been paid to its tips action; it is there that the rod really thrives. You will be surprised of the way a twitch is instantly and accurately is being transferred to our lure. Go to every rocky coastline, or port with this rod and with each aggressive twitch you will unlock trophy catches such as White Seabream and Saddled Seabream, but even pelagic feeding species like Atlantic Bonitos. We have tested the rod extensively and we can say, without second thought, that it is the best twitching model in these standards.
