The Asturie has had a long history of success in Sea Bass fishing in Europe despite the different fishing styles, in different countries. For example the French technique is very different compared to one in the UK. French tend to be quite violent with the Asturie, whereas in the UK, they tend to be quite subtle with it.
Originally available in the 11 and 13 cm, now the 9 cm has come about. The Asturie is a favorite lure among many, when conditions are flat calm and other surface lures create too much disturbance on the surface. It’s a surface lure that can be worked very subtly if needed, be with gentle slides and twitches that won’t spook fish. This is ideal for clear, calm shallow water marks where it’s easy to spook fish.
Mix it up, do your normal long slide (which is a slower and longer version of Walking the Dog) and normal Walk the Dog to get the best action, but don’t be afraid to give it some violent jerks with the rod tip high and then the same with the rod pointing straight down. This lure works as a surface lure and on the retrieve it will also dive under the surface to a foot deep.
The Asturie 90 is perfect when Bass and other predators are feeding on small bait fish, especially when there’s shoals of bait fish in-shore. The Asturie 110 is more useful when a bit more distance is required and the wind makes casting the 9cm model more difficult. The Xorus Asturie 110 casts like a bullet, thanks to its rear-weighting and design.
In general, the Xorus Asturie is a long casting lure that will fly out and will work beautifully even in a slight chop. This will become one of your favorite surface lures to work over shallow waters.
